Abstract Lemon & Strawberry
This feels like a nice moment. The first video that I filmed for Instagram, back in January, was a lemon and strawberry cake that I’d made for my birthday. Now in September, this is actually my first lemon and strawberry cake since then! I’ve done some reflecting and it’s fun seeing how I’ve evolved in the last 8 months or so.
This fluffy lemon cake has a zingy lemon buttercream and is filled lots of chunky homemade strawberry jam. The sweetness and tartness go really well together.
Now, I wanted a really clean base for this design, so I trimmed my edges before moving on to the piping. I’ve wanted to give this mini basket weave piping tip a go with an abstract design for sooo long so I’m glad I’ve finally gotten the chance.
For a little while, the cake was giving ‘trust the process’ but, I persevered. And I’m glad I did. Once the abstract piping was done, ‘trust the process’ became, ‘I see the vision’,
Then, as soon as I went in with my home dehydrated lemons and strawberries, ‘I see the vision’ turned into ‘this is really cute!’
How do you feel about abstract cakes? I think there’s so much more freedom for creativity as compared to say… character or vintage cakes.
Anyway, see ya next time!
